We had the pleasure of attending the 2023 Sudbury Business Expo, hosted by Penny from the Best Of Sudbury at Sudbury Town Hall. Farley, Andy and Nisha attended with our own Breakout desk, where we had the opportunity to connect with a wide range of local businesses, entrepreneurs, and professionals from across the region.
The event itself was extremely well organised and brought together a fantastic mix of exhibitors and visitors, all looking to network, collaborate, and grow their businesses. Throughout the day, we met lots of potential new customers who were keen to learn more about how Breakout supports small and independent businesses. It was also a great opportunity to meet new suppliers and build relationships that we know will be valuable going forward.
Having a presence at events like the Sudbury Business Expo is incredibly important to us at Breakout. We pride ourselves on being approachable, personable, and genuinely invested in the businesses we work with, and events like this allow us to have real conversations face-to-face. It’s often in these informal discussions that we can really understand the challenges business owners are facing—whether that’s around social media, websites, admin, or general business growth—and offer practical advice there and then.
One of the highlights of the day was Farley’s talk on “Myths and Legends of Social Media.” This session was designed to break down some of the most common misconceptions that business owners have about social media and provide clear, honest guidance on what actually works. Many people feel overwhelmed by social media or believe they need to be doing everything all at once, and Farley’s talk helped simplify this.
She covered key topics such as consistency, content creation, understanding your audience, and focusing on the right platforms rather than trying to be everywhere. The aim was to give attendees confidence and clarity, showing that social media doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming when approached in the right way. The talk was very well received, with lots of positive feedback from attendees who found it both informative and reassuring.
Events like this also reinforce the importance of community within business. The Sudbury Business Expo created a space where local businesses could support each other, share experiences, and learn from one another. At Breakout, we strongly believe in the value of these connections and the role they play in helping businesses grow sustainably.
For us, it wasn’t just about promoting what we do—it was about listening, learning, and being part of the wider business community. We came away from the event feeling inspired, with new ideas, new contacts, and a renewed appreciation for the incredible range of businesses operating in the local area.
Overall, the 2023 Sudbury Business Expo was a very worthwhile event—well attended, professionally run, and thoroughly enjoyed by all. We’re grateful to have been part of it and look forward to attending again in the future, continuing to support and connect with businesses both locally and beyond.
